Is Starting a Kangen Water Business a Big Waste of Money?

In my opinion it very often can be and if you’re someone who is considering starting a kangen water business, not only do I think it’s a mistake, but (on the bright side) I want to recommend something that’s better.

What I want to specifically cover are the following things in this article:

  1. What Kangen water filters are.
  2. The business opportunity.
  3. Is it a pyramid scheme?
  4. Why I don’t run a kangen water business (or recommend it).
  5. What I recommend instead (which is better, cheaper and doesn’t carry all the baggage kangen water businesses do).

About me: My name is Vitaliy and I’m someone who runs an affiliate marketing business which is a type of online business in which you promote other people’s products and services and earn commissions for each sale.

I do pretty well in this and have a lot of business experience overall, including with the topic of kangen water filter which is actually very intertwined with affiliate marketing (since making money with these filters involves promoting them).

What are kangen water filters?

They are special machines that ionize/filter water and by drinking it, it is said you can get amazing health benefits out of it.

Typically a good kangen water machine can cost several $1,000’s (usually $4,000 in costs) of dollars and the argument for getting them is 2 fold:

  1. The health benefits (alledgedly).
  2. You can also start a business selling/promoting them.

While the first benefit is debatable, what I want to focus on is the second…

How to make money with kangen water filters:

The most common way is to:

  1. Join an organization that has affiliation with a company that makes/distributes them.
  2. Then you buy the kangen water filter from the organization itself.
  3. The organization then earns a commission as affiliates.
  4. You then become an affiliate yourself that can promote the same machines.

The costs to get started doing this vary, but from what I’ve seen, the minimal cost to get started is around $4,000 (for the machine). By buying it, you then make yourself eligible to promote the machine.

By promoting each machine, you can earn commissions ranging from $1,000 and up. The whole premise behind starting a kangen water business this way is that the organization through which you buy the machine from gives you training and help to promote these machines so you can make more sales.

Is the kangen water machine business a scam or pyramid scheme?

It’s hard to say, but objectively speaking there are 2 common complaints you may hear about this business:

  1. The first one is that the machines are a scam because they are just regular (overpriced) water filters.
  2. The second is the pyramid scheme argument and this one needs more context…

With regards to the second thing, a lot of people believe that the organizations that sell these machines force you to buy one and then become an affiliate for them.

This keeps the scheme going by forcing sales and the hype it’s sold through is that you are “changing the world” and “making big ticket commissions in the process”.

Because the business model is very self promotional, this is where the pyramid scheme allegations come into play.

Why I don’t run a kangen water business (or recommend it):

5 reasons:

1) I’m not a fan of any business opportunity that forces you to buy a specific product (especially super expensive) to promote it. There are costs to start a business, but in this case it’s a bit much in my opinion, plus there’s many companies which are involved with this business that sneak up many upsells on you (more costs).

2) I am not exactly convinced of their benefits (but am open to it). I don’t argue that kangen water filters can help your health, but so can drinking regular water. The problem here is that in my opinion the financial incentive to sell these thing may “taint” the seller’s belief in these machines. And that’s where the next issue comes in:

3) Fake incentive/belief in the product is common: Here is an example (this isn’t the case everytime, but I see it a lot):

  • If they are being paid big bucks to sell it, they’ll tell you how amazing it is (maybe even believe it).
  • If they aren’t being paid, they probably won’t even sell it or will call it a scam (think about it).

I’ve run into many people who were sold the dream of starting this type of business and when I ask enough questions, I eventually come to the conclusion that they don’t actually care about the water filter itself or “changing the world”.

Their main priority is: I just want to make money and they use the “change the world” excuse to sell it (I can tell if it’s genuine or not).

4) Big failure rate exists, it isn’t easy to sell these machines: There are so many competing products/filters that are cheaper in this niche that it’s very tough to sell a $1,000+ machine to people. Maybe if you own one and have truly seen the benefits yourself and offer free samples to others, it can work, but generally speaking it’s VERY difficult.

Very often the companies that pitch you to join them and then buy the machine are themselves the affiliates for them and they’ll say just about anything to get you on the bandwagon, believing you can become the next success, when that is often not the case…

5) Are you really passionate about selling these machines? If not, there’s better options out there to start a business: A lot of people in my opinio are passionate about starting a kangen water machine business not because they actually believe in it, but because they want to make money, and that lack of sincere passion is key to their failure in selling it.

I believe (and know from experience) that if you want to succeed with a business, you need to choose a topic you love in life and build a business off that topic, and that’s actually what I want to tackle in the final part of this article:

What I recommend instead of a kangen water business
(easier, cheaper, no baggage):

A lot of people do not know this but you can actually create a highly successful online busines on a topic you love in life and that is honestly the best kind of business there is simply because you are building it off your passion and that fuels you to work harder and better at it.

Specifically, what I’m talking about here is the same business I practice for a living which is affiliate marketing and here’s how the model of how it works:

  1. Choose your topic/passion.
  2. Create a website.
  3. Drive visitors to the website.
  4. Earn money by promoting products as an affiliate to your visitors on the site.

Here’s a great example (countless other options available):

  1. I love mountain bikes.
  2. I create a website on mountain bikes.
  3. I create blog content on mountain bikes and drive visitors to the site (also interested in mountain bikes).
  4. I promote products on the site (mountain bikes, mountain bike accessories, ect…).
  5. The site earns $5,000 a month passively.

Why this is better than most other business models:

  • Very little costs to start (literally under $50).
  • Great for beginners.
  • No need to buy/own products (you can promote them).
  • You can build something off a topic you love (countless topics available).
  • No risks like the other models out there (huge investments, red tape, controversy, ect…).
  • And much more.

One of my personal examples (image right):

  1. I run a travel blog and write articles on places to see and review travel gear (as an affiliate).
  2. This travel blog gets 1,000+ visitors a day.
  3. I earn money from this site daily (and growing).
  4. I have my own business that earns money through my passions.
  5. You can do this too (with whatever topic you love in life).
